Blog #7 Fifth Journal Entry

I started making one of my mini book series. The one I'm working on is my "roommate" book. It's going to be entirely printed on computer paper using InDesign to create this book. The reason why I am using the computer is because my roommates and I use computers and writing through paper, post-its, and other typed/written form to communicate to one another. There's two different reasons why written text and typed text is used, the first is because of our generation. It's fast and easy to talk to each other using short messages through text messaging or Facebook. The information is there for the other person to access whenever he or she is ready to look at it. Since we use it everyday, it's easy to use during the normal course of our day. Our schedules are completely different so no matter what we are doing and where we are, we can still talk to each other. The only problem is that I have two other roommates who don't use text messaging or any kind of "complex" technology. The problem could be that they just came to America not too long ago so this new technology is foreign to them and the fact that the wife doesn't speak english doesn't help either. Only the husband knows some english which makes communicating harder when he isn't around. Even though he understands english, he still doesn't know a lot.
So the book basically contains my "adventure" with my roommates, mostly the Mexican couple who chose to live with college students to use and save money. As college students, we are poor and frugal therefore we save and use little energy as possible. They however do not know how to save but use things to an extent where bottles are empty after a few uses and having us replace them one after another. As you read my book, you can feel the different experiences I go through mostly with the Mexican couple. I came in this with an open mind but I can obviously see that I was wrong and naive. But I think everyone will find this book amusing regardless of my pain that I had to go through.

I don't really understand what you want to do with this book, could you be clearer?

I'm making one of my books using a computer program called InDesign. Instead of making it my hand like my other books, I'm using the computer because of two reasons. It's how my roommates and I communicate and it gives it a different meaning compared to my other books. Hand-crafted things are close to my heart whereas the computer-made book is more distant and not so close to my heart.
