Blog #4: Second Studio Journal Entry

So I'm thinking more about my thesis and I came up with a few more ideas. Since I love looking at books as well as making them, I've decided to make multiple books-a series each uniquely design by myself. Instead of dividing my book by chapters I'm thinking separate books but in one collection- each about different moments/subjects in my life that I find important.
My previous work is always about other people and in a straight forward manner so since I want to break out of my shell more I want to try to be "loud" and abstract. I still want to keep the design aspect but still make something cohesive and tie in with one another in some way.
Each book will be small and intimate because that's how I am. I carefully make things by hand and make them personal. If I made a big book it probably wouldn't describe me at all. I'm usually in the background and do "okay." I do want to stand out but I feel like I can still do that by making really intricate small books that are still interesting to look at and can interact with others. I want to break out of my comfort zone but still be true to myself at the same time. If I made the books bigger it would lose it's meaning. Sometimes special things come in small packages.
I definitely found inspiration from other books and objects I see. For example, there's this site that I "StumbledUpon" (my favorite site to get inspiration from) that had an envelope book. It was so simple and it was new-at least to me. It had an accordion style book bonding and within these gaps would be an envelope so it became an envelope book. I feel like I can gather all the things I want to express and put them in an envelope. Maybe not so literal but make the viewer interact with these objects and tell a story at the same time.
Another style of book I wanted to make was a shadow-box-cover book. I was always interested in pictures being 3D so in some bathrooms they have these framed images but filled with 3D objects. Not sure of what I'm making with that idea but I want something 3D and the idea of layers.
